The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) awarded State Representative Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury) a 100 percent rating for his support and advocacy of environmental initiatives in their 2011 Environmental Scorecard.
“I am particularly proud to have co-sponsored the Paint Stewardship bill this year,” said Godfrey. “It is important that consumers have a safe and convenient way to dispose of the potentially harmful products in architectural paint. The Housatonic Resource Recovery Authority was instrumental in gathering support for this new law.”
Godfrey said, “Ensuring Connecticut stays on course and follows rational environmental policy, I am proud to have supported legislation on open space, state parks, residential solar and the Long Island Sound Blue Plan.”
In addition, Connecticut will have the strongest laws in the nation regulating plastic microbeads in cosmetics which are detrimental to aquatic life. And, the ban on pesticide use will be extended to municipal playgrounds and allows a new nontoxic control be used for grubs.
The annual environmental scorecard grades state lawmakers based on how they vote on significant environmental legislation. This year the scorecard grades 30 separate votes on 16 bills that came up during the 2015 legislative session.
“To enact good environmental laws, we need good people at the state legislature to fight for us,” said Lori Brown, CTLCV Executive Director. This year’s Scorecard shows some great wins, and we owe thanks to our champions in both chambers.”
Formed in 1998, the bipartisan CTLCV works on laws that affect Connecticut's air, water, wildlife, open space, transportation, energy choices, and health.
“Bob has been a real environmental advocate over the years for the product stewardship bills. Due to his efforts, laws have been passed that have provided consumers opportunities to safely recycle electronics, household paint and mattresses,” said Cheryl Reedy, Assistant Director of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA).
