STATE FUNDS APPROVED FOR ROUTE 89 RESURFACING
State Representative Gregory Haddad (D-Mansfield, Chaplin) announced that the state Bond Commission has approved funding for the resurfacing of Route 89 in Mansfield.
The Commission authorized $650,000 for the pavement preservation project which will consist of placing rubberized chip seal along 3.25 miles from the Route 195 intersection.
“This is great news for our community as Route 89 is a key artery in town,” Haddad said. “The project is also coming at a good time, as the harsh winter has taken a toll on many of our roads.”
Haddad expects the state Department of Transportation to announce the timing and the length of the project in the coming weeks.
The funding is part of an $18.9 million allocation that also includes major highway stretches of I-84, I-91 I-291. The various projects are anticipated to create or retain about 800 construction related jobs.
To pay for the projects, bonds will be issued through the state’s Special Transportation Fund, which has a dedicated revenue stream that includes a combination of gasoline taxes, Department of Motor Vehicle fees and federal transportation funds.
Rep. Haddad is serving his first term in the legislature and is vice-chair of the General Assembly’s Commerce Committee and also a member of the Appropriations and Higher Education committees.
