STATEMENT OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE GREGG HADDAD
House votes to repeal Connecticut’s death penalty

“Criminals who commit heinous crimes should be punished severely and be permanently separated from civil society. By imposing life sentences with no possibility of release, we severely punish criminals and serve the cause of justice.”

“DNA evidence has been used to free hundreds of innocent people who were convicted of horrible crimes that they did not commit. Our criminal justice system works well, but it is not perfect and we must not risk imposing a punishment that is irrevocable.”
