REP. HADDAD’S BILL ON UNIFORM FINANCIAL AID REPORTING
PASSES OUT OF THE HOUSE

State Representative Gregory Haddad was pleased to see a bill he proposed and championed pass during a vote in the House of Representatives this afternoon. House Bill 5500 had previously passed unanimously out of the Higher Education Committee, where Rep. Haddad serves as Vice Chair, and the Appropriations Committee.

“My colleagues made the right choice in voting for this bill today and therefore made it clear that we as a legislature want to help parents and students understand the cost of college,” Rep Haddad said. “By requiring institutions of higher education to abide by a uniform financial aid shopping sheet, students and their families will be able to make better informed decisions.”

An Act Requiring Institutions of Higher Education to Provide Students with Uniform Financial Aid Information, would require institutions of higher education to provide financial aid information in a uniform way, so prospective students can fully understand their higher education costs. Rep. Haddad noted one way to do this is to require Connecticut institutions of higher education to use the financial aid shopping sheet developed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The bill will now be sent to the Senate for debate. It will need to be discussed and passed before the end of the 2013 legislative session on June 5.
