Rep. Haddad is pleased that the State Bond Commission approved $131,500,000 in state funding for the first building in UConn’s Technology Park at its May 11, 2015 meeting. The grant will help finance the construction of the Innovation Partnership Building which is expected to be completed by in the first quarter of 2017.
“This funding is great news not just for the University of Connecticut, but also for Mansfield and the state of Connecticut as a whole. Once completed, the Technology Park is predicted to bring over 1,000 well-paying jobs to eastern Connecticut and will help establish the university as a major national research institution,” said Rep. Haddad. “The Technology Park will forge important partnership between leaders in the scientific industry and UConn researchers, encouraging startup companies and innovative research right here in Connecticut. These partnerships will attract federal research grants, researchers at the top of their field, and contribute to the overall economic growth of our state.”

The 115,000-square-foot Innovation Partnership Building will be the first to become part of UConn’s 900,000-square-foot Technology Park. The building will be comprised primarily of large, flexible-use laboratories containing specialized equipment, not readily available to industry, for collaborative research between the university and the industry. The building will also include high-tech “clean rooms,” business incubators, and private space for use by individual companies.
UConn’s Technology Park, located on the north campus, will be constructed along North Hillside Road, which is currently under construction. When completed, the road will become a new entrance to campus and will reduce traffic volume along routes through residential neighborhoods that are commonly used as “short cuts” to the university.
