OPEN SPACE GRANT FOR MANSFIELD

Mansfield received a $243,750 state grant toward the $375,000 cost of purchasing 61 acres on Meadowbrook Lane in Mansfield. A mature woodland with two small knolls and several perched wetlands, this parcel is located on the north side of Puddin Land, has 390 feet of road frontage and will contribute to an existing greenway. This parcel connects to Mansfield's Sawmill Brook Preserve (a previous recipient of a state grant, together creating 223 protected acres. In addition, the property contains a segment of the Nipmuck Trail.

I want to thank Governor Malloy for this generous grant which will help protect Mansfield's beautiful green and open spaces. Protecting open spaces is critically important in maintaining a balanced approach between encouraging economic development in our region while at the same time protecting our environment and Mansfield's rural charm. This funding will ensure that 61 acres of woodland will be protected for future generations to enjoy for years to come.

Open space protection projects are helping Connecticut achieve its goal of protecting nearly 675,000 acres of state land by 2023; Connecticut now has 500,000 acres designated as state or local open space lands, about 74 percent of the goal.
