I was impressed by the Sacred Heart social work students and their professors who travelled to the Capitol for NASW lobby day a few weeks back. During the day I participated in role plays with the students and practitioners, answered questions, and encouraged them to reach out to elected officials when working to address social issues facing Connecticut. I look forward to working with the Sacred heart students and NASW in the future as they advocate for the most vulnerable members of our society.

It is an exciting night for me here at the Capitol. Two bills I have worked hard on, SB 502, An Act Concerning Bike Safety and HB 6975, An Act Establishing A Task Force To Study Life-Threatening Food Allergies in Schools passed in the House tonight. The Bike Bill has already passed the Senate, which means now all it needs is the Governor's signature - Great bipartisan work on both bills.

I had the privilege of visiting the St. Vincent’s Feroleto Special Needs Development Center in Trumbull with President and CEO Raymond G. Baldwin, Jr. and meeting some staff and clients. The center serves young people with significant special needs from 33 communities around Connecticut; 75% of their population is non-verbal and non-ambulatory. We toured their state-of-the-art therapeutic pool. I was a little hesitant when President Baldwin invited me to step out onto the deck, which is raised or lowered into the pool depending on the needs of the client. It was a treat to tour such an amazing facility, learn about their needs, and see the great work the staff is doing with the young people.

Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara before he facilitated an educational forum with the AARP and the Department of Consumer Protection on Identity Theft and Investment Fraud. This is an issue impacts all of us, but there are resources available such as The Fraud Watch Network.

I joined a bipartisan group of leaders in support of Women's Day at the Capitol.
I am grateful for the work of the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women to support women's economic security and eliminating gender discrimination in CT.

Mr. Flynn brought his civics class to visit the capitol. It was awesome that the first student group I got to meet as a state rep was from Warde. I reminded them that they can use their voices, even now, as students, to make change.

I was interviewed on Meet the Leaders TV program where we talked about my being new to the legislature and the tremendous opportunity and privilege it is to represent Fairfield. We covered several issue areas like the state budget and the need to work toward solutions and avoid the temptation to focus solely on the negatives. We also talked about Governor Malloy’s big transportation plans and the innovative, future oriented thinking we will need as we discuss the budget.
