REP. MUSHINSKY HONORED WITH CONNECTICUT’S CHILDREN AWARDS

State Representative Mary Mushinsky, House Chair of the Select Committee on Children, is a recent recipient of the 2003 Hunger Leader Award presented by End Hunger Connecticut (EHC!) for her perseverance and dedication in creating healthy and nutritionally sound school environments for the children of our state.

"I am honored to be a recipient of this award although the child nutrition bill didn’t get through final passage," Rep. Mushinsky continued. "I will continue to work s for the children of our state to maintain the goal of the brightest and the best."

Rep. Mushinsky introduced a bill in the 2003 session that would have included healthy food choices whenever sold food and beverages to students on school premises. The bill passed the House overwhelmingly but died in the Senate.

The goal of EHC! is to improve the levels of food security and nutrition among Connecticut families while creating and supporting policies that move families toward self-sufficiency.

Earlier this year, Rep. Mushinsky also received the Howard C. Scipio Award, named for a former state legislator who was active until his death in 2001, for her commitment to Connecticut’s children; and the Breath of Life Award from American Lung Association for supporting anti-smoking efforts in order to improve health.

Rep. Mushinsky is presently serving her 12th term in the Connecticut General Assembly. In addition to House Chair of Children, she is a member of the Environment, and Finance Revenue and Bonding Committees.
