State Representatives Mary Mushinsky (D-Wallingford) and Mary Fritz (D-Wallingford/Cheshire) welcomed funding for improvements to Pre-K classroom space approved by the State Bond Commission as part of the Smart Start program created in 2014 to expand public preschool statewide.
The first Smart Start classrooms are set to open in 14 communities and provide 416 three and four-year-olds with a high-quality preschool learning environment. The projects include bathroom installations, HVAC upgrades, classroom renovations, playground equipment, security equipment and classroom furniture.
"Early childhood education is a critical component of a strong academic foundation," Rep. Mushinsky said. "I am pleased the governor is prioritizing this program and moving it forward. Investing in education is a very smart choice and I am happy to support this initiative."
The $150,000 state grant will help Wallingford with classroom furniture and playground, instructional and technology equipment.
"I am very pleased that Governor Malloy included Wallingford in this round of funding," Rep. Fritz said. "Supporting high-quality early education is critically important for our children and their parents as they begin their schooling."
Rep. Mary Mushinsky is the longest serving member of the House of Representatives in the CT General Assembly. She is Ranking Member of the Program Review and Investigations Committee, and a member of the Environment and Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committees.
