SANCHEZ SWORN IN, APPOINTED TO COMMITTEES
HARTFORD — State Rep. Bobby Sanchez, D-New Britain, has been sworn in as the representative in the 25th House District by Secretary of State Denise Merrill.
Sanchez was elected in a Feb. 22 special election to fill the seat left vacant when John Geragosian resigned to become a state auditor.
“I am delighted to be a part of the New Britain delegation to the General Assembly,” Sanchez said. “My predecessor always worked hard for the people of the 25th District and I plan to continue that tradition. We have a great deal of work ahead of us, including the state budget, but I am ready for the challenges.”
Sanchez is a longtime leader in the New Britain community as a member of the New Britain Board of Education and is known for his work at the Human Resources Agency.
House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan appointed Sanchez to serve on the Education Committee, Finance, Revenue and Bonding, and on the Insurance and Real State Committee.
The Education Committee deals with matters relating to the state Department of Education as well as local and regional boards of education and collective-bargaining laws covering teachers and professional employees.
The Finance committee has authority over all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees and taxation, while the Insurance Committee is charged in dealing with all matters relating to insurance and real estate law.
