NEW BRITAIN STATE DELEGATION ANNOUNCES FUNDING
FOR LOCAL PROJECTS
Rep. Rick Lopes (D), Sen. Terry Gerratana (D), Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D), Rep. Peter Tercyak (D) and Rep. Betty Boukus (D) announce that New Britain received two important allocations at today’s State Bond Commission meeting.
Polamer Precision received $3 million toward a project to assist in the purchase of machinery and equipment for consolidation from three separate facilities in Newington to a new 140,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility in New Britain on the site of the former Pinnacle Heights public housing project.
The company will retain 62 new jobs and create another 78 within three years.
“Years ago, our city leaders made wise decisions to set aside land at Pinnacle Heights for future economic development. Today, Governor Malloy made those plans come to fruition by supporting an expanding state business to locate and grow in New Britain. This business expansion will be a win-win for the city and state,” Rep. Lopes said.
"It’s encouraging to see this important investment coming to New Britain despite this tough economic climate," Rep. Sanchez said. "Children should be our priority and both these grants provide benefits for children in school and in crisis, I welcome this funding with open arms and look forward to the benefits for our community.”
Wheeler Clinic, a short-term residential center for children in crisis, received $75,000 for costs associated with relocation from the University of Connecticut Health Center to New Britain.
“Wheeler has been an important provider of social services in New Britain for many years, I am thankful that they are receiving financial support from the state to continue services” Rep. Lopes said.
