ARTS COMMUNITY

Artists and Groups Receive Grants

Rep. Rick Lopes, Sen. Terry Gerratana, Rep. Bobby Sanchez, and Rep. Betty Boukus announced state funding for local New Britain arts programs.

"I thank Governor Malloy's for his continued support of the arts as an important driver of economic development in downtown New Britain," Rep. Lopes said. "These are well-spent funds that will contribute to bringing people to downtown New Britain to support our local small businesses."

"These grants are going to organizations that enhance the culture and the quality of life in New Britain," said Senator Terry Gerratana. "I'm delighted that they're receiving these grants. They're well-deserved."

"Supporting arts and culture is a way of enriching people's lives," Rep. Sanchez said. "The arts allow family and friends to learn by engaging in creative and exciting events that bring communities together."

"I am pleased to see the state continue its strong commitment to New Britain's thriving arts community," Rep, Boukus said.

The state Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) awarded grants from its Connecticut Artist in Every Community program and Arts Leadership program funded by appropriations approved by the General Assembly and federal dollars received from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Investment Act.

The grants include:

Consolidated School District of New Britain $5,000
New Britain Youth Theater $5,000
Polish American Foundation of Connecticut $30,000
CT Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra $5,000
Greater New Britain Arts Alliance $11,849

DECD's Connecticut Artist in Every Community and Arts Leadership programs issue grants to promote teaching and learning through high quality arts engagement and arts integration. The programs provide opportunities for residents of all ages, in every community, to interact with practicing artists in ways that will advance Connecticut cities, towns and villages as meaningful communities in which to live, work, learn and play.
