REP. SANCHEZ APPLAUDS FUNDS FOR WORKFORCE TRAINING

State Rep. Bobby Sanchez announced the expected approval of funds for a workforce training facility in New Britain, when the State Bond Commission meets next week.

“I have been working very hard to get funding for this project and am very pleased that it’s on the upcoming agenda,” Rep. Sanchez said. “This facility is extremely crucial for job training and helping low income residents prepare for the workforce. It provides adult education, job training and placement for residents at the Mount Pleasant Community. I appreciate our governor’s diligence to prioritize it, as well as my colleague Rep. Betty Boukus.”

The Mount Pleasant Community Education and Training Center in New Britain will receive a $1 million grant for the construction of a workforce training facility for public housing and low income community residents.

“State government is an important partner in the effort to strengthen communities across Connecticut,” said Governor Malloy. “Until everyone who wants a job has a job, strengthening our economy and bolstering competitiveness will be our priority.  With the addition of 22,000 jobs over two years, we’ve made some progress—this workforce training facility will help us continue efforts to build our talent pool and achieve a skilled and sought-after workforce.”

“One of the greatest barriers to gainful employment and prosperity is a lack of education and marketable skills,” said Rep. Rick Lopes (D-New Britain, Newington). “These are well spent funds – I commend Governor Malloy and Rep. Sanchez for their commitment to the betterment of New Britain.”

"I have long been an advocate of training and education as a critical aspect of our economy," said Senator Terry Gerratana (D-New Britain). "This facility will provide vital resources to our community's low income residents and prepare them to enter the workforce"

The State Bond Commission is expected to approve the funds at its meeting on Friday, April 26th, 2013.
