State Representative Bobby Sanchez lauded the Lorraine Street Community Block Watch and its residents for their involvement and work together for a safer neighborhood. The community welcomed an official sign that shows the commitment to protect one another, installed by the City of New Britain in the corner of Lorraine Street.
"This conversation started about two years ago with Walter and Jeannette Rivera and a couple of other residents on Lorraine Street," Rep. Sanchez said. "They talked to me about crime in the area and their desire to start a block watch to help reduce incidents. Today, I am delighted to have helped them and to be a part of this community project."
The neighborhood includes Dudley, Dixon, Milton and Lorraine Streets.
Rep. Sanchez noted Chief James Wardwell and the New Britain Police Department, as well as former Mayor Tim O'Brien, and other local officials embraced the project that helps bring peace of mind to local residents. The project shows that a community working together can accomplish great things.
"I encourage everyone in the community to start talking to their neighbors and get involved in similar projects to help improve our neighborhoods," Rep. Sanchez said. "Every little step we take towards improving what we already have will have a tremendous impact in the long run."
