Rep. Rick Lopes (D), Sen. Terry Gerratana (D), Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D), and Rep. Betty Boukus (D) announced state funding for local New Britain arts programs.
“Investments in the arts are investments in local economies and communities,” said Governor Dannel P. Malloy. “I’m a proud that DECD’s reach extends to cultural investments that directly enrich the quality of life for all citizens. These grants will allow us to preserve and enhance the humanities in one of Connecticut’s most historically vibrant areas.”
"I applaud Governor Malloy for supporting the arts as an essential component of an economically robust New Britain," Rep. Lopes said. "Investing in the arts is a cost-effective way to support small businesses in our cities and towns and create jobs.”
“This important investment in the arts will help enrich the lives of people throughout our communities while ensuring that local artists can continue their creative endeavors," said Sen. Gerratana. "The arts fill an important role in our lives and it betters the lives of all Connecticut residents for them to be supported in this way.”
“I am pleased to see these art grants for New Britain that will support essential venues and activities that are critical to our community,” Rep. Sanchez said. “We are fortunate our state’s leadership is committed to enriching people’s lives through the arts.”
“I am proud to see this state investment in local arts programs,” Rep. Boukus said. “New Britain has an artistic soul that is exhibited through these artistic endeavors.”
The Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD)/CT Office of the Arts (COA ) awarded grants from the Arts Catalyze Placemaking grant program in the categories of: ACP – Arts Leadership and ACP-Supporting Arts in Place. These programs are funded by the state appropriation to DECD/COA, and funds received by DECD/COA from the National Endowment for the Arts.

These state funds support cultural, artistic, historic preservation organizations so that they can achieve their goals and continue to add to Connecticut’s economic vitality and quality of life.
The grant programs from which funds were awarded include:
ACP Arts Leadership - The ACP - Arts Leadership category awards grants ranging from $1,500 -$25,000 for the planning and/or implementation of arts-based creative placemaking projects. This category requires partnerships, develops community engagement and positions the arts in a leadership role.
ACP4 – Supporting Arts in Place - category awards matching grants to eligible arts organizations and municipal arts offices to strengthen the state’s nonprofit arts industry. Supporting Arts in Place grants provide funding allocations derived from organizational data and are calculated by mathematical formula.
