New Britain legislators State Representatives Bobby Sanchez (D-25), Rick Lopes (D-24) and Peter Tercyak (D-26) lauded funding for New Britain schools that was approved at today’s State Bond Commission meeting.
“Technology has become an important component of student learning and we should do everything within our means to ensure that schools have access to current electronic tools,” Rep. Sanchez said. “I am glad to support measures that give our students a better chance to be globally competitive as we move towards a more technologically advanced future. I am pleased our state priorities are in the right place.”
“Our city schools face particular challenges when it comes to providing top-notch educational opportunities and this grant will contribute to an important facet of today’s education,” Rep. Lopes said. “Technology permeates almost everything we do and will be an increasingly indispensable part of life in the years to come. I thank Governor Malloy for approving this grant that will help improve our tech-readiness.”
Rep. Tercyak said, “That's just shy of a quarter million dollars NB taxpayers won't have to generate with property taxes. Thank you School Board grants writers for a successful application and a big thank you to Gov. Malloy for this opportunity.”
The $238,920 State Department of Education bond will go towards helping New Britain upgrade technology wiring in their schools.
