State Representative Bobby Sanchez has been promoted to Vice Chair of the legislature’s Education Committee, a committee he has been a member of since he began serving.
Sanchez has worked on various issues such as expanded access to pre-school education, increased funding for technological upgrades to classrooms, and improving college-readiness and academic support systems in urban districts.
"I am honored to serve in this new capacity,” Rep. Sanchez said. “As a father, I know too well the challenges we face helping our children navigate the education system, especially now with recent changes to education. I am ready and committed to doing everything I can to help our students and their families through the new process.”
The Education Committee handles of all matters relating to the Department of Education; local and regional boards as well as covering education and the substantive law of collective bargaining covering teachers and professional employees of such boards; vocational rehabilitation; the Commission on the Arts; and libraries, museums and historical and cultural associations.
Rep. Sanchez’ son is a sophomore at CCSU and graduated from New Britain High School.
"This new role is exciting and I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in shaping education policies that have a meaningful impact on our communities,” Rep. Sanchez said.
