State Reps. Rick Lopes (D-New Britain, Newington) and Bobby Sanchez (D-New Britain) are pleased to announce Pathways/Senderos received a Youth Services Prevention grant.
"I congratulate Pathways and the other agencies receiving grants and commend all of the indispensable work they have done in the area of violence prevention," Rep. Lopes said. "Given the disturbing and often repeated news about youth violence, we must leverage every resource to provide youths with the decision making skills necessary for peaceful solutions to confrontation."
Rep. Sanchez said, "We are fortunate to have a delegation that works together to make a difference in New Britain. Our combined efforts in bringing funds to help local organizations improve services and provide resources to our most vulnerable populations is laudable. I am proud to work with my colleagues in the legislature on behalf of our community and making our city a better place to live."
"Violence prevention programs are necessary and effective tools against incidences of violence throughout the community. Pathways is appreciative of this opportunity and of the efforts by the New Britain delegation to make it happen," said Nick Jakubowski, Co-Executive Director of Pathways.
The Greater New Britain Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Inc. Pathways/Senderos Center will receive $45,000 under the Office of Policy and Management's Youth Services Prevention grant.
Pathways received money under this grant last year, which led to the creation of the PEACE project, in which students participate in lessons and activities designed to prevent youth violence. The new funding will allow this project to continue through June 2015.
