An idea that Rep. Sanchez presented to New Britain's Mayor, was embraced by the City Council and passed unanimously to build a monument to honor and perpetuate the history of Puerto Rico's 65th Infantry Regiment, Borinqueneers. "This monument has special significance to me, as one of my uncles was part of the Borinqueneers who later served as the Mayor of Rincon for over 18 years," Rep. Sanchez said. "All of these amazing men fought for us honorably. They deserve all the recognition and honor we can show them, as well as the Congressional Gold Medal we have been pushing for at the federal level."
