REP. HADDAD STANDS UP FOR WINDHAM HOSPITAL
Rep. Haddad held a press conference outside Windham Hospital with Rep. Susan Johnson, Sen. Mae Flexer, and hospital employees protesting Hartford Healthcare’s proposed service and position cuts. This announcement was made despite the news that Windham Hospital will receive an additional $2.8 million in state aid in the coming years. READ MORE

MANSFIELD TO RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL $3.3 MILLION IN STATE AID
Beginning July 1, 2016, Mansfield will receive an additional $3,386,875 in state funding, mainly from the state’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program, reformed under this budget. These reforms prioritize towns which host more tax-exempt property and will increase their rate of reimbursement. Rep. Haddad has made PILOT reform a priority, as Mansfield hosts the University of Connecticut. Increased municipal aid will help ease the property tax burden for middle-class families and protect town services. READ MORE

REP. HADDAD APPLAUDS UNANIMOUS HOUSE PASSAGE OF OPEN-SOURCE TEXTBOOKS BILL
Rep. Haddad is pleased House Bill 6117, An Act Concerning The Use of Digital Open-Source Textbooks in Higher Education passed unanimously out of the state House of Representatives. Rep. Haddad introduced the bill to address the rising cost of college textbooks. HB 6117 would establish a pilot program on the use of open-source textbooks at the University of Connecticut in collaboration with the Board of Regents of Higher Education. READ MORE

REP. HADDAD WELCOMES STATE FUNDING FOR FIRST UCONN TECHNOLOGY PARK BUILDING
Rep. Haddad is pleased that the State Bond Commission approved $131,500,000 in state funding for construction of the first building of UConn's Technology Park. The 115,000-square-foot Innovation Partnership Building will be comprised primarily of large, flexible-use laboratories containing specialized equipment for collaborative research between the university and industry. Once completed, the Technology Park is predicted to bring over 1,000 well-paying jobs to eastern Connecticut. READ MORE
