A PROGRAMS REVIEW AND INVESTIGATIONS COMMITTEE REPORT SHOWS THAT DCF MUST DO BETTER AT TRACKING KIDS WHO 'AGE OUT'
Rep. Mary Mushinsky, Co-Chair of the Programs Review and Investigations Committee, weighed in on an issue that was the subject of a recent story in the CT Mirror on a recent study by the committee about youth aging out of state care. "We need to set up a support structure for wards of the state," said State Rep. Mary Mushinsky, D-Wallingford. "These kids, through no fault of their own, are left without a support structure for whatever reason -- parents who died, or couldn't handle parenting -- and the state system for taking care of them has to parallel the parent support in a parent-led household. REP. MUSHINSKY EARNS PERFECT SCORE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Mary Mushinsky received the Connecticut League of Conservations Voters (CTLCV) Legislative Champion award for her leadership roles on the Water Planning Council and on defeating glass eel legislation during the 2014 legislative session. Her lifetime score is 97% according to the CTLCV Environmental Scorecard. READ MORE

THE LEGISLATURE'S PRI COMMITTEE RECOGNIZED FOR WORK
Mushinsky lauded House passage of a comprehensive water strategy bill that will establish the framework for a statewide water plan, that will address every aspect of the state's water use. "This was the third try to create a statewide water plan. Having been part of the Water Summit and co-chair of one of the working groups that crafted the legislation, I appreciate the good will, expertise and collective ideas which helped shape this bill," Rep. Mushinsky said. "A strategic statewide plan was long overdue. I am glad that we are on the way to making this vital plan work before we are confronted with a crisis." READ MORE

PROGRAM REVIEW AND INVESTIGATIONS COMMITTEE TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON KEY ISSUES
A public hearing will be held in Wallingford's Town Council Chambers to hear about key issues including the reemployment of older workers, state parks and forests funding, hospital emergency use and access to substance use treatment for insured youth. READ MORE

REP. MARY MUSHINSKY SUPPORTS SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION BILL
Rep. Mary Mushinsky testified in favor of a measure HB 5029, before the Higher Education Committee, that will raise awareness and address prevention of sexual assault on college campuses in the state. In her testimony Rep. Mushinsky referenced a constituent who was sexually assaulted in off-campus housing and received a slow and unsatisfactory response by the school to her assault. The bill seeks to address this and other concerns. READ MORE

REP. MUSHINSKY HAILS GOVERNOR'S PLAN SUPPORTING UNEMPLOYED WORKERS
Rep. Mushinsky hailed Governor Malloy's announcement to ask the legislature to back a few initiatives he endorsed that will be included in the budget packet when session convenes next week. The measures which would benefit long-term unemployed workers, include a ban on discrimination against unemployed workers in employment advertising. READ MORE
