RAYMOND LIBRARY EXPANSION PROJECT BEGINS
Rep. Henry Genga gathered with other state and local officials Thursday in East Hartford for a ground-breaking ceremony for an $8 million renovation and expansion of the Raymond Public Library. The project will transform the current 48,000 square feet of library space by adding 14,000 more square feet with new meeting and computer rooms, a teen section, and museum artifacts from the town's aerospace and tobacco farming history incorporated throughout the building. CONNECTICUT BECOMES LATEST STATE TO ESTABLISH BLUE ALERT SYSTEM
On Oct. 1, the Blue Alert system takes effect in Connecticut, which becomes the 17th state to establish the system designed to notify the public when a law enforcement officer has been killed, seriously injured or missing, and a suspect, considered an imminent threat, is still at large. Rep. Henry Genga initiated and led passage of the legislation that established the system after a police officer in Genga’s General Assembly district told him what other states had done to combat crime and protect citizens as well as law enforcement officers. Rep. Henry Genga praised the establishment of a Blue Alert system for Connecticut, which will notify the public when a law enforcement officer has been killed, seriously injured or missing, and a suspect, considered an imminent threat, is still at large.
